Is Your Light On?

ANU Devotional - by Pastor Cindy North
Have you seen the small scale solar options these days? They can fit in your hand. A small bank of solar batteries can power your light at night.
As we begin this new academic year, we do so with anticipation of what God wants to bring to us here at ANU. We believe it involves reflecting on power for our lives but it isn’t the power that comes from solar, gas, nuclear, coal, wind, or hydro energy. It is the spiritual power that only comes through our creator God.
We call the ANU community together to pray because we need POWER. We belong to God and our great desire is to grow in likeness to Jesus. The way which God has made available to us to truly light up our world comes through what we call PRAYER. Prayer is our direct connection to the spiritual power source. The
Holy Spirit of the risen Lord Jesus comes to work in us and bring us this incredible power as He transforms us from the inside out. Jesus’ special work and mission makes this available to us.
Hear the call to pray from 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18(NIV)…
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Praying continually is God’s will for us. We want our spirits to be so interconnected with God’s Spirit that His power is a continuous flow in us. This light doesn’t have to turn off.
In 1 Corinthians 4:20 Paul tells the Corinthians that "the kingdom of God depends not on talk but on power." This makes me think, could I talk to the lightbulb and get it to turn on? Ha Ha! NO, absolutely not. My talk will not do anything to generate the light to come on if it is not attached to the power source.
We may be people of “talk” and we may even have a lot of words about God but without the direct connection to God and what God desires we will not accomplish God’s mission in our lives. Then everything we do is in vain.
Do you want real power in your life? Are you tired of hearing a lot of words but it doesn’t mean anything? Could your light make a difference where you are if you were connected to the power source?
Then let’s PRAY. God is available to each one of us when we humble ourselves before Him. Seek God with all your heart and He has promised to meet you there.
Others are here to pray with you. We are available and desire to walk with you on the journey. Come and see us in the Chaplain’s office (Harmons 2nd Floor, #15, cell #0771600727) if you are on campus or contact us… chaplain@anu.ac.ke.
Stay tuned next week as we reveal the Chapel theme for this year.
Go in Peace. Have a blessed week.
